Great post Shonali with some good insights. Just by being in the audience the people there understand the value of professional networks but those are also critically important today. In our market we're finding jobs are open/closed fairly quickly. Having a solid network through PRSA, IABC or other type group will mean you're on top of what's coming open and is currently quietly open. Becoming involved in those organizations will pay off for years to come.

The job market is fairly cutthroat at this point, but you are absolutely right: social networks are probably your best and most efficient means of escaping the traditional bang your head into brick walls until you break through approach.

Twitter has definitely been the biggest equalizer for me and has gotten me many interviews, clients and meetings that I may never had the chance to talk to otherwise. So keep trying everyone!
