Yay, Shonali! Can't wait to hear the recording! I think the blogging while you speak thing that @HowieG mentioned would be AWESOME! I'll head over and take the poll!
I know, it’s still seven days away, but the thing is that I will be heading up to New York City after three years (!) to attend my first-ever BlogWorld.
First. Evah! And I have absolutely no idea what to expect. I’m told it’s huge, so I suspect my head will be spinning after just a few hours of getting there.
But it will be worth it, because I’ll get to catch up with a ton of my social media friends (though they’re real friends now, so it feels weird to call them “social media friends,” but you know what I mean). I’ll also get to meet Gini Dietrich, Heather Whaling, Valerie Simon and so many others for the first time.
If it wasn’t enough to be a first-time attendee, I’m also speaking on a measurement panel along with Johna Burke (apart from having the same last name, we also both love shoes, these are what I caught her in at PRSA a couple of years ago) and Margot Savell, which Heather is moderating.
We chatted last week about how we wanted to approach the panel and we decided:
1. No PowerPoint. I can’t think of anything more boring than a panel discussion with slides, that too, at a blogging conference.
2. We want the session to be really interactive and useful, so we set up a Twtpoll to try and get a sense of what you’d like to know about measurement.
Now, the title of our session is “Applied Social Media Measurement,” and I know that doesn’t really say very much. Originally, it had an addendum that was “beyond just fans and followers,” but I don’t know what happened to that part of it in the publishing of the schedule.
But that’s where we’d like to take this session – talk about real world measurement, case studies, etc. – not a lot of theory, but discussing what works, what doesn’t, what the kinds of things are that we still need to learn and think about.
It would really help us out if you could take the Twtpoll. It’s just one question – tell us what you’d want to know about social media and applied measurement, beyond just counting fans and followers.
If you’re attending #BWENY, I do hope you’ll come to the session (and please let me know, so that I can meet you!). Even if you’re not attending, though, it would really help us out, and maybe you’ll find your question answered when you follow along on Twitter.
Our session is on Thursday, May 26, from 10:15 – 11:15 am ET. I hope to see you there… and now please go answer that question, will you?
Whew, when I saw the plea for help I thought we might be passing the hat; glad to see you already have reservations in place, just sayin'..........
I'm not going to roll out the social media doofus line anymore (unless I need to fall back on it) but I'm still not at the point of knowing what measurement I would interested in. I do know I have a Klout score because I saw it on HootSuite but I've heard that is not necessarily a good one.
I did have my IT guys telling me what I should be tracking on my blog but I still didn't know what it meant to me. I think I just need to klunk around awhile longer so I can be amazed at any success I might achieve.
I will take the poll if it means anything. I will tell you I'm jealous all you guys will get to hang together; I'll get to meet you one of these days.
Have fun and keep your eye on that Marcus dude; he'll be the one wearing the lion's head.
Hey Shonali, thrilled you're going to be at Blog world and very much looking forward to meeting in person.
Wait so when you give a presentation at Blogworld you aren't typing a blog in word press for everyone to see from the overhead projector?
Twit poll taken. Have a great show. I'd love to hear about analytics that connect socmed success -- traffic, followers, SEO -- into business success -- lead gen, deal capture, etc.
I'll be in NYC next week too, but I think leaving just as you arrive. We head up Monday morning and leaving Wednesday afternoon. I'm going to the PR News Facebook Conference, and bringing "my men" with me for a family vaca. I've never been to NYC so I am soooo excited :-) Have a great conference! oh, and I submitted my question and will try to follow along Thursday via Twitter (another first for me!)
I'll definitely support you in the poll. BUT I really wish I could attend Blog World and attend your session & meet you & @ginidietrich ...but I know you will both give a good recap when you return!
Hopefully @ginidietrich will behave and not throw flaming poo at you...she's been known to do curmudgeon like things of this sort from time to time!
Shonail, do me a favor: When you meet @ginidietrich for the first time, approach her and say "Please stop calling Ken Jacobs a BRAT. He's a dear, dear man." (And you will LOVE Johna Burke, I call her a living shot of vitamin B12.) Have a great BlogWorld.
I will be there! You're lucky in that @gojohnab already bribed me to attend, but don't tell her I'd attend for you without the bribe. Headed over to take the poll now. CAN'T WAIT!
@EricaAllison I can record from my Flip, too. Put me in coach!
@bdorman264 It would be awesome if you could take the poll, Bill, thank you! And we're all klunking around, believe me, just trying to figure things out. Better to try than not, right? I'm looking forward to the day I can meet you IRL too.
@Marcus_Sheridan I'm jealous; I want to meet everybody. I want to be like you when I grow up.......
@HowieG Of course you big silly..........
@HowieG And in little tiny type that changes colors so it looks pretty! You're so funny!
@DavidSpinks Spinks, are you going to cook for me? :p
@TheJackB We wont be livestreaming Shonali's session but it should be recorded baring technical difficulties 8)
@HeatherShinnThomas I'm speaking at the PR News Facebook conference and hope we have a chance to meet:)
@ginidietrich You're up, slugger! Record away!
@Shonali if by cook, you mean take you to my favorite $1 slice spot? Then absolutely! But seriously, I should have everyone over for a BBQ on my roof. What do you think? Weather permitting...
@gojohnab very exciting! I'll try to introduce myself at some point :-)
@DavidSpinks That's a great idea!
@gojohnab Did I say bribe? I meant imbibe.
