What’s Behind the Smile?

When I worked in downtown DC,

I used to take a bus to Metro (DC’s subway system, for those not familiar with it), and then ride the train in to my workplace, usually not more than a 15-20 minute ride.

As commutes go, it was fairly easy, and while I didn’t always enjoy being packed into the bus or Metro car like a sardine in a can, I did see some very interesting people.

There was one lady who stood out.

And I say “lady,” because she was clearly from an era when the word “lady” meant something.

For those of you who are fans of The Good Wife (I love that show!), she looked very much like Jackie, the mother-in-law.

In Memory of Hank

This is a personal post. So if you have the patience to put up with it, I appreciate it.

If not, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow.

Three years ago today, our dog Hank died.

Those of you who have pets know how much it hurts when we lose one.

Those of you who don’t probably think the rest of us are crazy. But to each his own.

The circumstances surrounding Hank’s death were extremely tragic, and it still hurts to think about them, so I won’t go into great detail.

However, I will tell you this: the saga started on April 17, 2008, while I was out of town on a business trip (I’d headed to New York just that morning).

Tired of trying

Invisibly clad in sparkling scarlet spandex

Hair buffeted by the breeze

Muscles awake and alert

Spring in my step, shine on my soul.

Rediscovering romance

Reiterating reason
